FAQ for Dog Grooming

How long does a dog grooming session take?

The duration of a grooming session is dependent on a few factors. If your dog has not been groomed in some time, the condition of the coat and type of haircut desired will determine the length of time required. In addition, behavior while at the groomer can also play a major role. We practice a trust and care first strategy and will not rush a session. Most standard grooming sessions can average between 1.5 to 3 hours depending on the size.

How often should my dog be groomed?

Different breeds require different intervals of maintenance. It is important to understand your dog’s individual needs. Coat type and lifestyle play big roles in determining the frequency of grooming. As a general rule of thumb, long-haired breeds may require grooming every 4 to 6 weeks, while short-haired breeds can sometimes be groomed every 8 to 10 weeks. Your veterinarian may also recommend more or less frequent grooms if the dog has specific needs or medical conditions.

What is included in a standard full service grooming session?

Typically a standard full service grooming session includes: bathing with shampoo and conditioner, blow-drying and brushing, nail maintenance, and ear cleaning. Haircuts may be standard if necessary or if directed by the dog’s owner. During the first visit we will assess your dog and make recommendations.

My dog is anxious, can they be groomed?

The short answer is yes. Anxiety in dogs can have many causes, including a previous bad experience at the groomer. Please let us know in advance if your dog is anxious – our groomers are skilled in working with anxious or nervous pets and we can employ calming techniques to make the experience an enjoyable one. One thing to note, sometimes it may require multiple sessions to work with bad grooming behavior or accomplish the look you are seeking.

My dog has special needs, can you accomodate?

Absolutely! If your dog requires special accommodations or a has medical condition, we will work with you to ensure your pet’s needs are met while they visit. Please let us know how we can help!

How can I prepare my dog for their grooming appointment?

Preparing for a grooming appointment is easy! If you already routinely brush your dog, there might not be much to do. If not, we recommend a quick brushing before the appointment can help to reduce matting and tangling. When it is time for the appointment, please make sure to arrive with your dog on a leash – this is for the safety of your pet.
